Welcome to Bellevue Baptist Church

Bellevue Baptist Church has a rich heritage, built on the sacrifices and struggles of our charter members. We continue to build on that heritage. We want to stand in the breach before God for the land (Ezekiel 22:30), sharing the message of God’s love and forgiveness. We also want to hold up the arms of our fellow Christians when they grow weary in the battle of daily life, as Moses’ friends held up his arms to strengthen and encourage the Israelite army. We would love for you to join us as we move forward into the future God has planned for His church.

Our History

Our History

On October 20, 1927, the Bellevue Baptist Church, originally called Bellevue Highlands Baptist Church, became the first organized church in the Bellevue Highlands. At the time there were 18 charter members and 2 candidates for baptism.

After five months of meeting in homes or tents, construction being done by the men of the church, and the women raising money by selling homemade quilts and cooked dinners, the new building was ready for the first service. It was scheduled to be held on the fourth Sunday in March, 1928. However, two days before the first service was to be held, a fire destroyed the new church building.

The following days were filled with heartache and disillusion, but God had a plan. So, once again work started to add money to the “rebuilding fund.” Even through the early days of the Great Depression, the members persevered, and Bellevue Highlands Baptist Church became a reality. On September 29, 1929, the first service was held in the new building.

God continued to bless Bellevue, and in time more room was needed for Sunday School classes. Land was purchased at 150 Noccalula Drive, and in July 1959, the first worship service was held at the current location. In the years to come an educational wing and then a new sanctuary were added. The first service in the new sanctuary was held on March 12, 1978.

Church growth continued with the purchase of the Noccalula Shopping Center in 1988, after which a gymnasium was added to the plaza and a separate worship area for the youth. A dedication service was held for the Christian Life Center on November 7, 1993.

In 2017, Bellevue moved “Forward in Faith” to undertake a major remodeling of our church Chapel, Sunday School areas, youth facilities, and fellowship hall, with plans coming soon for a remodeling of our present sanctuary.

Bellevue has a rich history in missions, not only in giving, but also in going and doing. Men and women from Bellevue have assisted in building churches or youth have led Bible schools from Maryland to Wyoming. More recently, Bellevue church members have participated in carrying the gospel to other parts of the world, such as Africa, Asia, and Haiti.

Bellevue Baptist Church strives to be the beacon on the mountaintop and to follow God’s lead to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to our community, our city, and the world.

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
